7-9 June 2019: 2019 IHRA Winternationals
The 2019 IHRA Winternationals was severely affected by rain. The first qualifying session for the CNW Electrical Wholesale Mustang was scheduled for Friday evening. After the rain cleared, the track was dried and prepared, but the track was too cold and subsequently declared too dangerous. Saturday was not looking much better and everyone thought that we might only get one shot at qualifying with more rain expected. Unfortunately on our pass, a rod let go, with an associated fire, resulting in a 6.0 Elapsed Time. Things were not looking good. Fate was on our side however as some of our competitors also had problems in that session. Rain then curtailed any more qualifying sessions and we ending up qualifying fourth in an eight car field.
We installed our spare engine, replaced the shift light, burnt wires and blower straps, patched the body up and were back in action. Amazingly our data logging sensors and leads were not put out of action.
In round one of eliminations our opponent, Greg Clayton, broke a throttle cable and we were through to round 2. We turned the car around, and got back out for the semi finals against Gary Phillips. We got the jump on the tree, but then both cars shook the tyres. Gary was able to recover quicker and take the win, going on to win the meeting and the championship. We finished up sixth in the 2019 400 Thunder Pro Alcohol championship.
We cannot thank our crew, sponsors and fans enough for all the ongoing support, as we cannot do this without you. Big things are coming for the 2019/2020 season. Stay tuned.
